Haritaki, the fruit of the deciduous myrobalan plum tree, is considered an important herb in Ayurveda and Siddha medicine, both forms of indigenous Indian medicine. The fruit itself is small, oblong and less than 2.5 cm in size.
It is also known as haritaki harad, haradey, kaddukki (in South Asia) and kayakalpa. In Tamil it is called kayakalpa, a rejuvenator of the body, balancing all doshas, or humors. It is often referred to as a life-giving herb.
Haritaki is a fruit high in vitamin C, vitamin K, magnesium, amino acids, flavonoids and antioxidants.
