Konjac is a root vegetable native to Asia. It is known for its starchy root tuber. The tuber is a rich source of a soluble dietary fiber called glucomannan.
Konjac is used as a traditional medicine and food source, and in the Western world as a food additive and dietary supplement to lower cholesterol, improve carbohydrate metabolism, and promote bowel function.
Konjac's high fiber content provides many health benefits.
When mixed with water, glucomannan expands and can absorb up to 50 times its weight. If glucomannan expands before it reaches the stomach, it can cause choking or blockage in the throat and esophagus. To prevent this, rinse with at least 2 glasses of water or other liquid.
